Erik Rosen

Executive Director

Erik Rosen serves as Executive Director of the Building Biology Institute, where he leads the organization’s strategic growth, partnerships, and day-to-day operations in service of healthier, more sustainable built environments. Since joining BBI in 2014 and becoming Executive Director in 2024, he has guided the development and delivery of the Institute’s global online education platform, overseen budgets and fundraising, strengthened governance, and cultivated relationships with educators, industry leaders, and policymakers. He manages cross-functional staff and volunteers, represents BBI in national forums and media, and ensures that programs translate complex building science principles into accessible, high-impact learning experiences.

Erik’s professional background spans nonprofit leadership, curriculum design, journalism, retail entrepreneurship, and medical and corporate communications. Prior to his current role, he directed BBI’s online programs for a decade, designing interactive curriculum and authoring technical content for an international audience. Earlier in his career, he founded and managed a successful artisan retail business, served as a medical writer and editor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and led copywriting and affiliate initiatives for a national e-commerce brand. Across roles, his work has centered on translating complex ideas into clear communication, building mission-driven teams, and connecting communities with practical, real-world solutions.
