Building Biologist | Healthy Materials Educator | Certified Passive House Designer | Founder, HEALTHY HOME EXPERT & The Transparency Movement

Annie Scog is a Building Biologist, Certified Passive House Designer, and leading Healthy Materials Advocate who is reshaping how we think about the health and safety of our built environments. As the founder of Healthy Home Expert and creator of The Transparency Movement, Annie empowers professionals and homeowners to build and renovate homes that are high-performance, biologically supportive, and free from harmful toxins.

Her journey began with a moment that changed everything.

“When one of my pets developed endocrine cancer, I couldn’t shake the feeling it was connected to something in our home. After extensive research, I traced it back to PVC flooring. That realization sent me deep into the world of building materials, air quality, and environmental health—and I haven’t looked back.”

What Annie discovered was deeply confronting: the homes we consider safe can silently undermine our health. Determined to uncover the truth and make change, she completed an Advanced Diploma in Building Biology and immersed herself in the science of healthy home design.

Today, Annie works at the intersection of building science, environmental health, and sustainable design, translating complex technical knowledge into accessible tools and education for renovators, designers, and builders.

The Transparency Movement

Annie is the founder of The Transparency Movement—a bold not-for-profit initiative advocating for ingredient-level disclosure in building materials, like labelling in food. This work is driven by her belief that builders, designers, and homeowners deserve honest information about the materials going into their homes—and how those materials affect human and animal health. In addition to raising awareness and pushing for industry-wide accountability, The Transparency Movement is committed to funding women in trades, helping to create more inclusive and health-conscious leadership in the construction and design industries.

“One of the biggest challenges in the industry is the lack of transparency. I created The Transparency Movement to push for industry-wide awareness and hold manufacturers accountable. Change starts with knowledge—and I’m here to be a voice for that change.”
