Important Update from the Building Biology Institute

A New Chapter Is Written

Dear Building Biology Institute alumni and associates,

We are writing to share some significant updates regarding recent changes to our leadership and our vision for the future of the Building Biology Institute. As a community that values transparency, growth, and adaptability, we want to be proactive in addressing recent shifts and, most importantly, share our renewed direction as an organization.

After many years of dedicated service, our Executive Director Michael Conn and three longstanding members of our board—Larry Gust, Jeanie McLaughlin, and Spark Burmaster—have moved on to other pursuits. Oram Miller also retired from the Institute in autumn 2024 to focus more on his consulting practice and non-work activities.. Erik Rosen, leveraging his extensive experience in BBI’s operations, is stepping into the role of incoming Executive Director.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of them for their dedicated service and impactful contributions to the Institute’s success. Their legacy will continue to inspire and shape our path forward. We look forward to embracing new leadership with fresh perspectives to advance BBI’s mission.

Since origins in 1986 in North America, the Building Biology Institute has pioneered environmental health, educating and empowering professionals to address health concerns within homes, buildings, and workplaces. As our world changes, we are evolving along with it to better serve our community.

To better support our alumni and strengthen BBI’s role as a trusted resource, we’re modernizing our approach with:

  • Enhanced Marketing Support: We’re committed to providing you with stronger tools, resources, and leads to support your professional growth.
  • Advanced Technology Integration: We are embracing innovative solutions to better connect, train, and engage with our community.
  • A Dynamic Network: We are building a robust alumni network that keeps you at the forefront of industry trends and fosters ongoing support for your professional needs.

This transition is more than just a change in leadership—it’s a significant step forward for the entire Building Biology Institute community. We are dedicated to ensuring that our programs and services not only maintain our legacy of excellence but elevate it.

We will be reviewing our training programs, instructors, how we use our website, social media platforms and monthly meetings to extend our impact and improve how we serve you.

In the coming months, we will be introducing new board members with fresh expertise and a shared passion for our mission. These new leaders bring a forward-thinking approach that will empower us to reach greater heights, both for our organization and for each of you, our valued alumni.

We’re excited to embark on this journey and look forward to what we can achieve together. Thank you for your continued support, trust, and dedication to making spaces healthier and safer for all.

Warm regards,

The Building Biology Institute Board of Directors
