The materials, design, and use of the spaces we inhabit impacts us as well as our planet. According to Stanford Professor W.R. Ott, humans have basically become an indoor species. This is particularly true for urban dwellers, who make up more than half of the world’s 8 billion inhabitants.
Our built environment matters. In Building Biology, nature is the gold standard, inspiring buildings that support resilient, healthy human lives in design and function.
About the scholarship:
This scholarship, open to individuals identifying as female, covers the full cost of the Building Biology Advocate (BBA) certification from the Building Biology Institute (valued at USD$1020, including course textbook; fully distance learning). While this is a nonprofessional, stand-alone certification, it may be transferred completely toward one of the professional certification (BBEC, EMRS or BBNC) programs with the BBI.
About the donors:
The funds for this scholarship were raised through the Women in Building Biology Speaker Series, with the majority of contributions from women during their studies with the Building Biology Institute.
About Petra Jebens-Zirkel:
Petra was an award-winning architect and building biologist who established the Instituto Español de Baubiologie (IEB) in 2009 and was its president until her passing in 2023. Her warm nature and dedication have left a built and living legacy of the 100+ projects she designed and the mentorship of countless practitioners. She presented in the Speaker Series in both 2022 and 2023.
