From the Executive Director – Building Biology Institute

Building Biologists, send us your stories!

It’s been another busy month at BBI. We recently concluded our IBE 213: Building Physics/Building Biology seminar with 36 enrolled students. Despite moving the seminar online at the last minute while vetting a new seminar venue, senior instructors Paula Baker-Laporte and Stephen Collette knocked it out of the park, providing a rich, creative, and immersive educational experience for our students. Here is some direct feedback from students:

  • It was really great.
  • I loved it thank you!
  • I’ve enjoyed the teaching so far and really appreciate all of this.
  • The course was really well done. Thank you for everything.
  • Though I would have enjoyed it more face to face, it was informative, and a tremendous joy. This is a great group of individuals to be connected with. I appreciate you and the crew making it great with the circumstances. I look forward to the next one, and the future of building biology!
  • I have really enjoyed my first seminar. Stephen and Paula are an excellent team and do a great job of making this a fun and informative experience. Our group had a terrific mix of people with various experiences…this made for good conversations. I am now looking forward to diving into the individual courses.

Our next seminar, IBE 211: Indoor Environmental Quality will be held from June 16-20 with prerecorded lectures and daily live Q&A sessions. We still have seats available, so if you’re interested in learning the non-technology causes of sick house syndrome: biological, chemical, and particulate exposure sources in the air, the ground, including your water, mold, allergens, radon, lead, asbestos, metals, methane, carbon monoxide, volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, and others, click here to register.

Our Marketing Team is looking for personal stories from working Building Biologists which highlight the important work they do. For more information, please click here and send us your best!

May’s 50% off Course of the month will be Designing a Kitchen for Wellness. Kitchens are where we nourish ourselves, feed our families and host guests. However, kitchen design and its effect on human health and well-being is often overlooked. Promoting and supporting healthy kitchen environments requires a detailed and comprehensive understanding of Building Biology principles. The course tuition will be 50% off from May 1-May 31.

On behalf of our staff and board of directors, I would like to thank Dr. Lisa Del Alba, BBEC, EMRS for taking over the production of this monthly newsletter. We are grateful to have her insightful, enthusiastic, and steady hand on the production of EcoDwell.

Until next time, here’s to healthy homes and healthy lives.

Erik Rosen, Executive Director
